But the first Thursday night meeting in January opens with a twist no one saw coming: a challenge they can’t refuse.
Each month, the twelve members must solve a cryptic (and sometimes incomprehensible) clue, read the book it references, and show up for their meeting ready to discuss it. Sounds easy, right?
It is… unless you miss the meeting. Or read the wrong book. Then someone dies.
The members call their mysterious tormentor the Puppet Master, but no one knows who pulls the strings—not to mention why. Despite the best efforts of a determined detective, no one can figure out who’s behind the threats—or how far he or she is willing to go.
Months pass, friendships form and fail, secrets surface, and even unexpected romances make everything even more complicated. Just as they grow careless, one member dies, and the proof is there on a morgue slab. This is no game.
Anyone could be next. Not only that, one of their own may be pulling those strings. Almost all of them have motives. Then again, motives don’t make you guilty.
