Using story to connect YOU to the Master Storyteller

So, There Was That Time I Forgot What I Knew…

by Chautona Havig · 2 Comments

It's here! All an Act by Melissa Wardwell has released, and were all talking about those things from our past that return to bite us! via @chautonahavig

It finally happened. After four years of authors giving each other prompts at the release of a story, I slammed up against a wall.  Melissa Wardwell posted this for the authors of the Suamalie Islands Series:

In All An Act, Lulu comes face to face with a part of her past that she thought was no longer an issue. That is, until she runs into André. The deep [seated] bitterness she held toward him affected more areas of her life than she would like to admit.
Authors: Was there ever a time that your past mistakes or situations jumped out from no where in the present? How did you handle that moment?
Okay, here’s the thing. I 100% have zero doubt that it has. In fact, if forced to gamble, I’d put everything I own and have ever owned on that being true. But I can’t recall a single instance. At first, I tried to force it–to turn minor things into a story that illustrated the point. So what if they were super minor?  Some of the biggest lessons I ever learned were from minor moments in my life. But then I remembered this Scripture:
Jeremiah 31:34 “No longer will each man teach his neighbor or his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ because they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquities and will remember their sins no more.”

Yeah… emphasis there is totally mine, and the point. This has always been one of my favorite verses. God CHOOSES not to remember our sins when they are forgiven.  They’re gone. Washed in the blood. Kaput.  I try to wallow in them from time to time as if wallowing in that filth will somehow prove how repentant I am or something.  Who am I trying to prove something to?  Not God!  He doesn’t need any and I know it.  But it’s almost like I think I need to prove it to myself or something.
Maybe that’s why I can’t remember. Perhaps, for just a little while, my gracious, loving Father has given me the gift of amnesia so that I would remember the “amnesia” He chooses to employ when it comes to my sins. Satan accuses, Jesus points to the blood and says, “Father, forgive her.”
And the Father does.  Done and dusted.  Though my sins be as scarlet…
Don’t get me wrong, I think there is much to be gained by reading about people who learned from their past mistakes.  I’m glad Melissa wrote this book and asked us to write this. Because right now, I’m guessing someone needs the reminder that yes, you blew it once (or a million times).  But Jesus forgave.  The Father forgot.  It’s OVER. Or, in the words of Christ on the cross… “It is finished” as far as they are concerned.  Isn’t that beautiful?

All an Act by Melissa Wardwell IS NOW AVAILABLE!!!

Not all weddings end in marriage. Not all hurting hearts remain broken.

In the year since Something Suamalie started, the dynamic trio Kiana, Lulu, and Meilani have accumulated a glowing reputation at home and abroad for brides and their wedding day dreams. But when a triple-booked weekend forces Lulu to manage the wedding of the Onirique events coordinator by herself, panic sets in. Her lack of confidence and ADHD, not to mention the return of a devilishly handsome man, could easily spell disaster.

When André left the Suamalie Islands to pursue a career in Paris, he never dreamed of returning. The islands hold a treasure chest of memories he wishes to keep locked away, but recent changes in his life force him to face those very things. And a choice for his future that will break more than one heart.

With neither of them able to talk about their feelings, how will Lulu and André be able to set aside their pasts and move on?

Take a trip to the Suamalie Islands where palm trees sway, the sand and sea pulse with life, and the people will steal your heart.

What she builds in its place will change everything. Abby Whitney had it all—or so she thought. A glittering Manhattan life. A powerful husband. A future that seemed secure. But when her husband, Michael Whitney, dies suddenly, Abby discovers the shocking truth: the man she loved was living a double life, and he’s left behind a daughter who has no one else in the world. Becoming guardian to eight-year-old Cami forces Abby to confront the wreckage of her marriage and the emptiness of her own existence. Trading the scrutiny of New York’s high society for the quiet shores of Bluefin Bay, North Carolina, she begins to uncover the strength she never knew she had. As Abby attempts to mother a grieving child, she discovers friendship, purpose, and the stirrings of a love that’s honest and true. But will she be able to let go of the woman she used to be? A heart-stirring novel of betrayal, resilience, and the healing power of love, this is an unforgettable story about finding home where you least expect it—and becoming who you were always meant to be.

Reposted from @catheswanson Charlea Evans thought Reposted from @catheswanson Charlea Evans thought she had finally put her unconventional past behind her.

Now a widow with a college-age daughter and a promising new career within reach, she's worked hard to build a respectable life far removed from Serenity Hill—the quirky former commune where her free-spirited mother still lives. But when a devastating house fire destroys her home and everything she owns, Charlea finds herself with nowhere else to turn.

Reluctantly, she returns to the farm she thought she'd escaped forever, trading independence for her childhood bedroom, milking goats, tending chickens, and counting the days until she can afford a place of her own. Then an accident lands her mother in the hospital, leaving Charlea responsible for managing the property and overseeing an ambitious new venture.
Her mother and daughter have plans of their own. Big plans. Plans to transform Serenity Hill into a seasonal market and destination for workshops, events, and community gatherings. Helping bring the vision to life is Drew Wallace—the man who stole her heart on a single unforgettable date fifteen years ago.

As she works to keep the project moving forward, Charlea finds herself confronting old hurts, long-held assumptions, and the family history she's spent years trying to leave behind. With old dreams awakening and new possibilities taking root, she begins to wonder if Serenity Hill holds the answers she's been searching for. She must decide whether she's willing to risk her heart again—and whether the future she carefully planned can compete with the one God may have been preparing for her all along.

Coming home is the last thing Charlea wants—but it may be the beginning of everything she's been searching for.

Something New is the first book in the Serenity Hill series.
