Here are a few answers to common questions regarding our Because Fiction Interviews on Zencastr.
Q: Why did I get two reminders for my interview for two different dates?
A. When you request your interview, we ask for two dates in case something comes up and we need to cancel the first one. This prevents you from having to wait weeks while we schedule a new one. You can disregard the second date’s reminders unless the first one was canceled.
Q: What do I need to record?
A. A laptop or desktop (using Chrome or Edge, preferably–never Safari) is necessary. While we have ONCE managed to use a browser on a phone, it wasn’t the best recording quality and we’ve not been able to replicate it since. An external mic (gaming headset is a good option if you have nothing else) is beneficial, but as long as there isn’t an echo and you’re in a quiet space, it should be fine. Please note. ANY sounds connected with your computer are likely to be picked up–paper shuffling, beads rattling, pencils rolling… I can only edit out so much.
Q: When will I get my Zencastr Link?
A. Approximately ten minutes before your interview, I will send a link to the Zencastr recording room. There is no download. Just have your mic and stuff plugged in before clicking the link and you’ll be ready to go. I’m sorry, but I cannot send the links earlier, and I do not do phones.
Q: Do I need to send a book beforehand?
A. Because Fiction does not REQUIRE an eBook or paperback to interview an author or reader. However, I do request that you consider sending a copy so that I may read some beforehand (if wise), and promote your book as much as possible afterward. I put reading updates on GoodReads, share images of the cover if sent a paperback, etc. While I am grateful for either, a paperback offers an easier method of promoting the book, and I usually do pass them on to others when I’m finished to spread the word about your books.
