Aggie's Inspiration

Aggie’s Inspiration

What is it? Many have asked if Aggie's story is "autobiographical."  While not really, some things in my life were definitely included in the book.  But one question/statement alone was Aggie's inspiration. spotify blog post

I Spot Spotify: playlists and cool stuff!

So I have a lovely online friend who is all hip to the cool new stuff--you know, like Spotify.  That's my way of saying she knows what's out there and I'm an old geezer. She asked if I had it.  I said, "Um... probably not?" That would be because I had no clue what she was talking about! I'll admit. Continue Reading

The Quick and Dirty Guide to Easy Book Reviews

We've all seen them.  Internet memes urging you to leave book reviews. (Note: links in this post may be affiliate links and as such, I may receive a small commission from them at no extra expense to you. Thank you!) Memes say things like, "Feed an author. Leave a review" or "Help an author. Continue Reading

What’s with My Obsession with Silence?

Maybe it's because I'm too much like Dean from Corner Booth.  Perhaps it's because I'm just weird.  Maybe both. Yeah.  Probably that. But silence seems to be a theme with me.  When I wrote Speak Now, I did it because I wanted a less dialogue-driven novel.  I thought I could make it work that way. Continue Reading

Madeline's Glossary

The Unofficial Glossary to Meddlin’ Madeline: Sweet on You

One of the best parts about writing the Meddlin' Madeline series is playing with words that I grew up using and reading, but most people don't use anymore.  I had parents of a literary turn of mind, so I grew up being told to, "Slow down and enunciate." This began at age 3. So while other kids were Continue Reading

Controversy & Writing the Hard Stuff

Controversy & Writing the Hard Stuff

Let's face it.  The world loves controversy.  You've seen the news.  They don't report on how everyone agreed on something.  They report on how the city council broke out in a shouting match over which road gets paved next or the color of napkins at the next mayoral dinner or whatever.  Seriously, Continue Reading

Orange County Christian Writers' Conference

OCCWC: or what I did this weekend

WHEW! Well, I'm semi-coherent, so I thought I'd update you on the OCCWC (the conference I was at this weekend). It started early (well, for me) Thursday morning.  Had to get up at 7.  I survived.  This is a testament to the Lord's goodness, and I am not being facetious. My friend, April, and I got Continue Reading

21 Days series covers

Book Review & Interview: 21 Days Devotionals

One of the best things about joining a "local" (I drive 3 hours to get there so not super local) ACFW chapter is that you get to meet some amazing people.  We're all crazy different--appearance, lifestyle, career, writing genre, and I suspect theologically as well. There's Michelle the creative Continue Reading

Will Not See--2016

Books for 2016: It’s gonna be a prolific year

What do I mean about it being a "prolific year?"  Some would say I am always prolific.  And well, I am.  But last year I had a goal--twelve books in twelve months.  And really, if you consider HearthLand, I almost made it.  So that was cool.  I had a prolific year, but not to the extent I'd Continue Reading

Fowl Tears: or how a bird died

Fowl Tears: or how the world changed when a bird died

"Stephen's hurt. Going to the ER. Gotta go." Click. Three super-short sentences that changed a family's life--our family's life. Our world changed that day. Of course, at the time, if you asked Stephen what happened, he'd say, "A bird died." A raven. Just one or the grouping name Continue Reading

twenty-seven years

Twenty-Seven Years (i.e. WHOA!)

That's how long it's been since our wedding day.  Twenty-seven years. Our "wedding day" is not to be confused with our "marriage" day.  We got married in Las Vegas on November 25, 1988.  But, three months later, on February 18, 1989, we still had our wedding. I was just talking with my favorite Continue Reading

Character Interview: Kaye

I thought it might be nice to check in with Kaye--see how she's doing, and find out if she has had a "freak out" thing this year or not. I mean, she had one before, and it meant a whole life overhaul, right? Chautona:  Kaye?  You here? Kaye:  Yeah... hang on!  Purrlock has my phone.... CAT!  Continue Reading

Yeah. It's a thing. Which is weird because I rarel Yeah. It's a thing. Which is weird because I rarely call a book by its title. Past Forward is "Willow." Ready or Not (and the rest) are all "Aggie" (I add 1, 2, 3, 4 etc). None So Blind is "Ella."
The New Cheltenham books are all whatever word changes that year. So I'll talk about "Stars" or "Ghosts" or "Bells." But if I don't have a title I could put on the cover of the book (even if it changes--rarely but it happens--) I can't even write the first sentence. It's dericulous. Um... Ridiculous. Same smell.
Grammar wise, I'd say it's my stupid habit of not bothering to add question marks at the ends of questions. My poor editors. I THINK it's because I get interrupted in the middle of the sentence, come back, and forget it was supposed to be a question. Dont' quote (or question) me on that, though.
If you have a question you want me to answer, leave it in the comments OR... zip me an email at chautona@chautona.com. I'll try to work them in (and will probably combine those that are really similar.

Princess Genevieve’s life seems like a dream. She has a loving family, a devoted fiancé, and a future set in stone. But beneath the perfection lies a secret she has guarded for years, one that could shatter everything if it were ever revealed. When an ancient doctrine resurfaces and threatens the very foundation of the monarchy, Genevieve is forced to face a choice that will cost her more than she ever imagined.

DePeaux men love for life. They only ever give their heart away once. Julian knows his father’s oft-quoted words to be true, because his heart belongs to a woman too. A woman who long ago stole his heart, captured beneath the oak tree as they painted and grew up together. But he can never have her. Because another man’s ring lies on her finger.

With time running out and the truth impossible to ignore, Genevieve and Julian are drawn together in ways that challenge everything they have ever believed. In a world bound by tradition and expectation, they must decide if love is worth the risk of losing their future, their duty, and each other.

Reposted from @catheswanson Charlea Evans thought Reposted from @catheswanson Charlea Evans thought she had finally put her unconventional past behind her.

Now a widow with a college-age daughter and a promising new career within reach, she's worked hard to build a respectable life far removed from Serenity Hill—the quirky former commune where her free-spirited mother still lives. But when a devastating house fire destroys her home and everything she owns, Charlea finds herself with nowhere else to turn.

Reluctantly, she returns to the farm she thought she'd escaped forever, trading independence for her childhood bedroom, milking goats, tending chickens, and counting the days until she can afford a place of her own. Then an accident lands her mother in the hospital, leaving Charlea responsible for managing the property and overseeing an ambitious new venture.
Her mother and daughter have plans of their own. Big plans. Plans to transform Serenity Hill into a seasonal market and destination for workshops, events, and community gatherings. Helping bring the vision to life is Drew Wallace—the man who stole her heart on a single unforgettable date fifteen years ago.

As she works to keep the project moving forward, Charlea finds herself confronting old hurts, long-held assumptions, and the family history she's spent years trying to leave behind. With old dreams awakening and new possibilities taking root, she begins to wonder if Serenity Hill holds the answers she's been searching for. She must decide whether she's willing to risk her heart again—and whether the future she carefully planned can compete with the one God may have been preparing for her all along.

Coming home is the last thing Charlea wants—but it may be the beginning of everything she's been searching for.

Something New is the first book in the Serenity Hill series.
