Why Coke Is the Most Dangerous Drink for Authors

Why Coke Is the Most Dangerous Drink for Authors

I almost didn't get this week's special up.  Why?  I'll tell you.  Coke. It isn't my friend.  Not this week, anyway. *shhh... don't cry Coke.  I'll love you tomorrow.  I promise* Note: Links in this post may be affiliate links and as such, I may receive a small commission at no extra expense Continue Reading

5 Reasons Why Workouts Stink

5 Reasons Workouts Stink (or something like that)

I promised a while back to write a bit about my gym journey, and I'm here to do it with why workouts stink.  Literally.  Look, I'm not a huge fan of the gym.  Never have been.  Probably never will be.  I've reconciled myself to this.  In fact, instead of having a goal of "loving workouts more than Continue Reading

A Rebel in the making

A Rebel in the Making: My Father’s Influence

Anyone who knows my father knows that "rebel" sounds incongruous with his strict rules and expectations. When other kids wore blue jeans, t-shirts, and "sneakers," my siblings wore leather soled shoes, slacks (for the boys), buttoned up shirts, or dresses (my sister).  The boys had crew cuts when Continue Reading

Hold Me Close

Hold Me Close: A book review

Hold Me Close--what a fun title! Why?  Well, unlike in most historical romance, Hold Me Close doesn't have a romantic significance. Okay, maybe I am wrong.  You see, "hold me close" in this sense signifies one character's desire for the Lord to "hold her close" and keep her from wandering from Him. Continue Reading

Aggie's Inspiration

Aggie’s Inspiration

What is it? Many have asked if Aggie's story is "autobiographical."  While not really, some things in my life were definitely included in the book.  But one question/statement alone was Aggie's inspiration. Links in this post may be affiliates that provide a small commission at no extra Continue Reading

spotify blog post

I Spot Spotify: playlists and cool stuff!

So I have a lovely online friend who is all hip to the cool new stuff--you know, like Spotify.  That's my way of saying she knows what's out there and I'm an old geezer. She asked if I had it.  I said, "Um... probably not?" That would be because I had no clue what she was talking about! I'll admit. Continue Reading

The Quick and Dirty Guide to Easy Book Reviews

We've all seen them.  Internet memes urging you to leave book reviews. The Shape of Mercy: a book review

The Shape of Mercy by Susan Meissner is one of my most favorite books.  Before reading Ms. Meissner's contemporary-woven-with-historical novels, I didn't care much for books that did that.  In particular, one by Siri Mitchell had completely turned me off of the idea and mostly because she did a Continue Reading

Lady in Waiting

Lady in Waiting: a book review

Lady in Waiting by Susan Meissner is one of the first historical-combined-with-contemporary books that I actually liked. The book became one of my favorites.   (I originally wrote this review back in 2011 and have revised it for this post. It also contains affiliate links which provide Continue Reading

No Matter What Happens This Series Won’t End!

I had a plan for The Agency Files.  Three books.  But book three had too much happening to wrap up completely, and I had this character from another book that needed resolution. So, I decided on a fourth book.  A Forgotten Truth.  There.  All done.  Right? Nope. This series won't end! (Links in Continue Reading

King Arthur: The Arthurian Legends Rewritten

King Arthur: The Arthurian Legends Rewritten

Knights and castles.  Ladies in waiting.  Arthur, Guinevere, and Lancelot. The stories of romance and chivalry.  I always hated them.  I considered Guinevere a spoiled shameless woman; Lancelot, a peacock masquerading as a man; and Arthur, not worthy of his title of king. Jousting doesn't thrill Continue Reading

Because She's Mibs

Because She’s Mibs

The tune of "Because He Lives" wafts through the room as my brain tries to parody the title with "Because She's Mibs."  Can't you hear it, "... she will sing tomorrow.  Because she's Mibs--her song is long!  Because she kno-ooh-oohws,  He holds the future!"  Right? All through the Aggie Continue Reading

Yeah. It's a thing. Which is weird because I rarel Yeah. It's a thing. Which is weird because I rarely call a book by its title. Past Forward is "Willow." Ready or Not (and the rest) are all "Aggie" (I add 1, 2, 3, 4 etc). None So Blind is "Ella."
The New Cheltenham books are all whatever word changes that year. So I'll talk about "Stars" or "Ghosts" or "Bells." But if I don't have a title I could put on the cover of the book (even if it changes--rarely but it happens--) I can't even write the first sentence. It's dericulous. Um... Ridiculous. Same smell.
Grammar wise, I'd say it's my stupid habit of not bothering to add question marks at the ends of questions. My poor editors. I THINK it's because I get interrupted in the middle of the sentence, come back, and forget it was supposed to be a question. Dont' quote (or question) me on that, though.
If you have a question you want me to answer, leave it in the comments OR... zip me an email at chautona@chautona.com. I'll try to work them in (and will probably combine those that are really similar.

Princess Genevieve’s life seems like a dream. She has a loving family, a devoted fiancé, and a future set in stone. But beneath the perfection lies a secret she has guarded for years, one that could shatter everything if it were ever revealed. When an ancient doctrine resurfaces and threatens the very foundation of the monarchy, Genevieve is forced to face a choice that will cost her more than she ever imagined.

DePeaux men love for life. They only ever give their heart away once. Julian knows his father’s oft-quoted words to be true, because his heart belongs to a woman too. A woman who long ago stole his heart, captured beneath the oak tree as they painted and grew up together. But he can never have her. Because another man’s ring lies on her finger.

With time running out and the truth impossible to ignore, Genevieve and Julian are drawn together in ways that challenge everything they have ever believed. In a world bound by tradition and expectation, they must decide if love is worth the risk of losing their future, their duty, and each other.

Reposted from @catheswanson Charlea Evans thought Reposted from @catheswanson Charlea Evans thought she had finally put her unconventional past behind her.

Now a widow with a college-age daughter and a promising new career within reach, she's worked hard to build a respectable life far removed from Serenity Hill—the quirky former commune where her free-spirited mother still lives. But when a devastating house fire destroys her home and everything she owns, Charlea finds herself with nowhere else to turn.

Reluctantly, she returns to the farm she thought she'd escaped forever, trading independence for her childhood bedroom, milking goats, tending chickens, and counting the days until she can afford a place of her own. Then an accident lands her mother in the hospital, leaving Charlea responsible for managing the property and overseeing an ambitious new venture.
Her mother and daughter have plans of their own. Big plans. Plans to transform Serenity Hill into a seasonal market and destination for workshops, events, and community gatherings. Helping bring the vision to life is Drew Wallace—the man who stole her heart on a single unforgettable date fifteen years ago.

As she works to keep the project moving forward, Charlea finds herself confronting old hurts, long-held assumptions, and the family history she's spent years trying to leave behind. With old dreams awakening and new possibilities taking root, she begins to wonder if Serenity Hill holds the answers she's been searching for. She must decide whether she's willing to risk her heart again—and whether the future she carefully planned can compete with the one God may have been preparing for her all along.

Coming home is the last thing Charlea wants—but it may be the beginning of everything she's been searching for.

Something New is the first book in the Serenity Hill series.
