Tools for Writing Effectiveness *snicker*: Part One

This could be subtitled "Or tools I use to trick myself into being productive." People often ask how I "get so much done."  Now, a lot of times they're also asking about housework (hint: I subscribe to the "lived in" school of housekeeping),  homeschooling (toss the books at 'em and tell them if Continue Reading

Hush!

It's always going to be about me controlling my tongue.  Learning to be quiet.  I blame my surgeon. When I was 18 months old, I had surgery to correct my cleft palate.  That surgery left me with an INCREDIBLY nasal voice--almost incomprehensible.  My sister even beat up a girl who dared to mock Continue Reading

Lessons on the Airplane

One of the things that many people requested on the reader survey was a devotional.  I thought about it and at first, I was certain that it wouldn't work.  I don't really have time to add something else to my plate.  But then I was up in North Carolina at my writer's retreat.  For those who didn't Continue Reading

A Day in My Life: Friday

Ooooh boy.  Ever have a day when you spin your wheels... indefinitely?  Then, miraculously (because God is Who He is), at the end of the day, all that spinning managed to get the work done? Yeah--one of those  Woke up late, forgot to eat breakfast, and Lorna (#7 daughter) came home from Continue Reading

A Day in My Life: Thursday

Well, today went pretty much as planned.  Those are rare, no?  Well, they are in my life.  Of course, it helped that I didn't have a busy day planned.  My goals for the day were as follows: Get scrip cards (check!) Finish gifts for retreat ladies. (check!) Plan menu for while I'm Continue Reading

A Day in My Life: Wednesday

Sorry... this is a bit late.  Last night at about midnight, I lost Internet access.  UGH.  So, I found myself just working and not worrying about it.  The theme for the week continues, no? Okay, so the obvious.  Got up, got dressed, ate, made the bed--all that jazz.  Then I started editing--made Continue Reading

5 Things I Hate about Writing (Number 4 is the worst)

What, you thought it was all roses and ink stains?  HA! Dream on!  Okay, so writing is pretty awesome.  I'm not going to pretend it isn't.  I love it.  Always have.  I've "written" stories in my head since I was old enough to think coherently--or at least I thought I was coherent, and I'd Continue Reading

A Day in My Life: Tuesday

My morning routine:  Mix my Xypstix drink, eat some yogurt, take my first supplements. For those who want just a quick recap, here it is:    The Laundry list of my day: Woke up (this may seem insignificant, but let’s just trust me that it’s not) Got dressed (see above) Did hair and makeup Continue Reading

A Day in My Life: Monday

"Man plans his ways..."  Yeah.  That.  Okay, so two weeks ago, I decided I wanted to do this series now.  I figured this would be the best week option for it.  While not "normal" I did hope it would be reasonable.  HA! So, it all started "last night" at about 5 a.m. (Still July 20, but I'm weird, Continue Reading

5 Days of Fun, Tedium, and Chaos

Or, otherwise known as, "A Week in the Life of Chautona Havig."  Yep!  That's right!  (pretend to be excited, will ya?) This coming week, with one day delays (we hope only one day), I'm gonna share just what life is like for this girl!  The fun, the boring, and well... the ordinary (which equals Continue Reading

So Which of My Characters Is Most Like Me?

So Which of My Characters Is Most Like Me?

Am I?  Am I "a character?" Well, my mom always said I am.  Someone would ask about my character and that's what she'd say.  "Oh, she's a character all right."  So, there you have it.  Easiest answer of them all. Sigh. Links in this post may be affiliate links that provide me with a Continue Reading

Smut, Scripture, & Authenticity

See that gal ^^^ up there? Yeah.  Her.  I've been her.  I've scrolled through Amazon and found a great-looking book.  The synopsis gripped me, the cover looked crisp and inviting, and the negative reviews (that's where I start) said things like, "It didn't download right" or "The author thinks Continue Reading

Ever feel like you've lost control of your house.. Ever feel like you've lost control of your house... and your life? Yeah. You're not alone. Meet Kaye. Wife, Mom, and competitive shopper (or so she wishes--erm, wished). November 4, 2025: Bookish Gratitude is a great cu November 4, 2025:
Bookish Gratitude is a great cup of tea, a snack, and a new book!
I'm drinking Lyon's Gild, recommended by @jenniferdeibel_author , but its in my empty Harney & Sons "Victorian London Fog" tin. That's my second favorite tea. My FAVORITE is "Christmas in Sisters" from @suttle_tea . Just got my order in... been hounding the website since July. Now that mine is reserved, I will sing its praises to the rooftop. With cream and sugar, it tastes like a really good chai without the soupyness some ciffee shop chais have.
Eating Pepperidge Farms Linzer raspberry cookies (recommend 2 not 3... three was almost too much).
Reading A Light at the End of the Woods by @carriebrownellwrites ( not Donwell... duh) and @bookmonkeypress
So far I love it!!!!
