What Would Make a Tropical Vacation More Exciting? Find Out!

by Chautona Havig · Leave a Comment

Tropical Target by Jennifer Pierce offers everything you could want in a tropical vacation... except maybe the target part. Right? via @chautonahavig

Picture it. A small living room.  Half a dozen people–maybe a dozen. Laughter booms out at random intervals. And woe to the one who lays down his or her cards first. Someone goes back for seconds and finds the pot or pan empty.  Everyone blames Ethan. They’re not wrong. He might be in his twenties now, but he’s still the bottomless pit that he became in his late teens.

“How about Bananagrams?”

Someone else suggests Code Names.

When Master Detective Clue gets a bid, everyone agrees.  Right as someone else suggests ice cream.

The debates begin again, and I have to say… I love it. Sometimes I remember how sure I was that I never wanted to get married and have children and laugh.  Times like this… I just thank God that He didn’t give me my way.

You know, some people love to go on vacations together. Others like to attend concerts or go camping.  Havigs… we have a meal and play games.  Usually with random bursts of singing and way too many Dad jokes told by more than just the dad in the house.

What Would Make a Tropical Vacation More Exciting? Find Out!

So… what is this game stuff all about and why am I talking about “tropical vacations” all of a sudden?  Well… In Tropical Target, Noa’s mother cooks meals for her family, even though they’re adults. Do you and your family get together regularly? What do you do? Watch a movie? Have a meal?

Tropical Target PierceTropical Target by Jennifer Pierce

Being accused of murdering a client isn’t good for business.

Tropical islands are popular for destination weddings. But Le Cadeau Île won’t be a popular destination for long if Detective Noa Tanielu can’t find out who is responsible for a ring of thefts occurring during weddings. When the thefts escalate to the murder of a bridezilla, the most likely suspect is the new wedding photographer.

Wedding photographer Haley Marsh moved to the island to nurse her broken heart and start over after being dumped two days before her wedding. When she’s moved from the suspect list to the target list, a little white lie leads to a fake engagement. With Haley’s connections to the wedding business, it’s clear the key to solving this case lies in keeping up the charade.

Noa and Haley must navigate the investigation and Noa’s mother’s attempts to make the engagement all too real…if they survive that is.

Take a trip to the Suamalie Islands where palm trees sway, the sand and sea pulse with life, and the people will steal your heart.

Episode 500: A Chat with Joy Crain
byChautona Havig

All authors put a bit of themselves in their books. They can’t help it. But while chatting with author Joy Crain, I saw it in a whole new way. Her books in the Royals of Andelar series are her story–and not. But they are. Listen in to see what I mean and to hear her amazing life story.

What happens when an author lives where internet is tightly regulated? We get creative. My usual recording program? Not allowed. Zoom? Nope. Finally, I recorded us with “print screen video.” Of course, I had to extract the audio separately and all but… we got there in the end.

What a great conversation!

The Cost of the Crown by Joy Crain

Missy Hanson never dreamed of falling in love and living happily ever after. In fact, she doesn’t know what she wants to do after she graduates from college; nevertheless, she’s content working as a journalist for her local newspaper and assisting at her aunt’s California bakery. When a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity emerges for her to visit the southeast Asian country of Andelar, Missy is thrown into the world of royalty as the special guest of the king and queen—and it’s clear she doesn’t belong, despite her family ties to the area. But the royal family isn’t without its mysteries. Rumors abound that a secret prince is hiding amid Andelar’s society, and Missy is determined to find out who he is. Aiden Waverly never wanted a crown or a title. He craves a normal life, but being a secret prince of biracial background is difficult enough and would create chaos amid the tabloids if the press learned about his parentage. After years of traveling the world to help those in the greatest of need, he’s faced with a life-altering decision: take his place as crown prince or walk away as a commoner. With no clear path that will satisfy him and the royal family, the tug between following his heart and doing his duty to Andelar becomes harder every day.

Reposted from @catheswanson My annual Christmas sh Reposted from @catheswanson My annual Christmas shopping reminder:

I am an independent author! Amazon is my primary source of income, as it is for tens of thousands of small businesses and independent artists.

MANY, many small businesses (including me!) use the Amazon platform for selling. It's a great way for small businesses to reach a wide market without the huge overhead of a brick-and-mortar store or the obscurity of their own website.

Over half of the units sold on Amazon are sold by independent sellers!

In addition to that, Amazon has independent authors who are (totally or nearly-totally) dependent on Amazon for their income, and their Amazon Handmade department is growing fast. It's a marketplace where artists and crafters can sell their products.

They also have a generous affiliate program, and many people (including me) make money from that. They employ tens of thousands of people, from entry-level warehouse and delivery jobs to high-paying tech and office jobs.
