Question Du Jour: How Do You…

by Chautona Havig · 10 Comments

Write so fast!!!

I get an email at least once or twice a day from someone asking how I possibly write so fast.  “You publish a new book every other day!”

Ok, so no one has said that exactly, but the implication is there: how do I manage to pound out 90,000 words every other week.

Today I give you the super secret answer.  Shh… come closer.  Don’t want to destroy illusions of my brilliance here. (Collapsing on the floor, grasping my sides, and howling at that one.  Snort).  Ready for it?

I don’t.

In fact, from the end of April through the end of October, I had only written new material to fill up gaps in Willow–less than 20,000 words total I’m sure–and my Camp WriMo stuff that hasn’t been finished at all.  What? You say!  Well, it’s true.  November has been the exception for two reasons.

  1. It’s NaNoWriMo time!  I’m writing Not a Word and enjoying every second of it
  2. I’m at the end of the Willow Saga and there’s a LOT of stuff that needs fleshing.

You see, I’ve been writing for almost eleven years straight.  I started with Aggie, went on to Grace, then wrote Hope (Yes, back in 2006 I wrote Hope and six years later, we published it… see what I mean?), and Argosy Junction, and…   So, do you want to see what my “Books in Progress” folder looks like?  I’ll show you a list (woefully incomplete right now I might add) of in progress or completed works waiting for publishing.

So, see?  There’s really a lot already written and a lot in progress, and a WHOLE lot planned… but nearly every word of this was done before June 2012.  I am a fast writer.  But for the past six months, I’ve been publishing previously written work over the past ten years.  And we’re rapidly running out of those books and moving into new ones.  And I’m excited about that too.  🙂

As you can see, I’m not going to hit Writer’s Block anytime soon.  😀

So WOW is today’s word? I agree – amazing body of work and I add in the blessing of 9 children, a real life outside our obsession with your writing and oh my goodness – she probably even sleeps! Thank you for sharing your writing and world with us – like the others – I will miss Willow, she has been a special comfort to me during a season of grief
Indeed – to God be the Glory!

Incredible!!! Why didn’t you start publishing sooner?? Wasn’t it torture to have so many books waiting to be published for so many years and not having any one read them out there??
You are one very unusual and intriguing author! And so talented; I enjoy your writing so much!
But I’ve already started to mourn saying goodbye to Willow & Chad. They’ve become such special “friends” and I’m going to miss them so much!
Say, what about a serial novel that goes on forever – like a soapie?? 😉

Wow! (Your comment section is starting to sound like a broken record – or a bunch of comments about Willow. ;p) I can’t imagine having that many books pending!!! I’ll have to have an entire bookshelf devoted to you by the time you publish them all and I manage to get my hands on printed copies of each! 😀

To the KING be all the glory!

Taking the pulse of Christian fiction

Episode 215: A Chat with Henry O. Arnold
byChautona Havig

I had a chat with actor and author Henry O. Arnold a while back, and boy did we have a lot of fun. His Song of Prophets and Kings series features the advent of Israel’s kings from Samuel’s birth through David hiding from Saul (so far) and onward. Listen in as we chat about his most recent release, The Singer of Israel.

What Made David Such a Man after God’s Heart?

I think this series will show us. I love that Henry O. Arnold started back at Samuel’s story to prepare us for the story of arguably the most influential king of Israel. Yes, Solomon was the wisest and richest, but David offered something that Solomon didn’t have. He was an average guy—a shepherd, no less—chosen by God to lead his country.

In a sense, it’s kind of the ancient Jewish version of a poor, everyday guy growing up to become President of the United States. If you know what I mean.

This five-book series is available as an eBook, in print, and as an audiobook, too! Henry read a snippet of it to us, and boy you get a feel for his love of Scripture and God’s people as he reads.

And if that wasn’t enough, he even gave us a hint of his upcoming Christian suspense/thriller “series. He says he has two books planned for sure, so… at least a duology, but maybe we can talk him into a trilogy at least? Get those odd numbers and everything?

The Singer of Israel by Henry O. Arnold

A singer’s voice inspires a troubled nation…A shepherd’s courage vanquishes a giant

The last official act of the prophet of Yahweh was to secretly anoint a replacement for the king of Israel who has been brought low by an unbalanced mind. The great prophet of Israel lives in fear of the wrath of the king. Then out of the hills of Bethlehem emerges the last-born son of a family of shepherds to become the unforeseen hero of Israel.

When David sings of the glory of Yahweh, this shepherd wins the hearts of the royal family and restores King Saul’s troubled mind. But when the singer/shepherd defeats the champion of the Philistines in single combat, David becomes forever known as “the giant slayer.” Saul quickly sees that David is now a threat to his kingdom and secretly plots to have him killed.

David may be the champion of the people of Israel, but he must live under the constant threat of Saul’s wrath until he is finally forced to flee for his life.

The Singer of Israel is a tale of triumph and tribulation, deepest love, and burning rivalries; the new epoch is given a voice…and it is The Song of Prophets and Kings.
