K-indness

I think it's underrated in today's society.  We're more of a tit for tat culture these days.  "Anything you can do to me, I can do worse to you" seems to be the rule of the day.  I wonder, whatever happened to kindness? Your waitress is snooty.  Would it hurt you to smile and leave a good tip?  Continue Reading

J-ust

the Write Escape... Someone asked me recently how I came up with "Just the Write Escape" for a tagline for my website.   To be honest, it wasn't an easy decision.  I wanted something that was gently edgy.  Yeah.  Like the paradox that I am (That might just have a little something to do with my Continue Reading

I-ncomplete

(To see what other bloggers are doing this month, check out the HUGE list of bloggers HERE! In school, it's a word that pretty much ensures your GPA goes south.  In writing it could mean a hundred different things--or a hundred different projects.  Yes, I have well over a hundred different Continue Reading

H-ope

Hope was one of my first characters.  Six years ago I participated in my first NaNoWriMo.  I like to challenge myself for NaNo, so I chose to force myself to write the most romantic drivel I could manage.  Look, the book is bad.  Really bad.  However, there is (forgive the pun) hope for it.  I need Continue Reading

G-

Gee!  That's a funny letter!  I got to wondering (yes, I said "got" for a reason there) about what fun words start with G and how many of them I use in writing.  So, here we go, eh? Giblets (self-explanatory) Gizzard (inspired by giblets of course) Guts (ok, is there a trend going here or Continue Reading

F

Not words.  Sheesh.  Get your mind out of the gutter.  No, I mean names.  I discovered something about myself this year.  Every time I go to name someone, when I get to their last name, I instinctively type, "F." No, really.  I do.  It goes something like this. From a battered purse that had Continue Reading

E-verard

Yes, I'm using today's post as an advertisement for my next Not-So-Fairy Tales book.  Sue me.  No, don't.  I don't have anything you want.  Sorry.  If I win the Lottery (guess I better start playing), I'll let you know and you can sue me then, ok? Where was I?  Oh, Everard.  He's coming along Continue Reading

D-eleterious

I can hear you now.  What?  Am I going to corrupt you?  Harm your psyche?  Is this what I think my books are? No.  How about the word itself?  When was the last time you heard it in common conversation?  When was the last time you read it spoken?  Or, God forbid, have you only heard it spoken by Continue Reading

C-haracters

They define my writing.  I have often wondered about that. You see, I can't start a book without a title.  No, really, I can't.  Even if I later change that title, without a strong, working title, I can't start writing.  I freeze.  I have the words, they're in my brain, I'm aching to send my Continue Reading

B-elieve

Believe is a cool word.  Unlike it's quieter brother, belief, it's an action word.  It jumps up and does something where belief stands quietly and says, "This is who I am."  Believe says, "This is what I do." My books are one way that I show what I believe.  There are little nuances in them that Continue Reading

A-mbitious

What is it?  It's a word that means something like "totally crazy chick who is always doing extreme things like this A-Z blog challenge thing." I've always been a bit inclined to be overly ambitious.  In school, I'd get a new PACE (workbook like thing that was 1/12 my year's work in a subject) and Continue Reading

Dream Cast for Ranger’s Apprentice

Why not?  I love the series, Ranger's Apprentice by John Flanagan.  It's an amazingly well designed series.  I love it.  And because I love it, I want to see it as a movie.  IMDB claims it is "in development," but I am not certain it will ever happen.  So... let's play around, shall we? Will-  Of Continue Reading

Ever notice how you best know yourself--and know y Ever notice how you best know yourself--and know yourself the least? We humans are weird that way. Sometimes I think the Lord allows us to be blind to parts of ourselves for a time so as not to drive us too crazy too quickly. Or something.
Characters most like me are hard because they're so very convicting to write AND... because I don't usually know it's me until that conviction its. I tend to have an idealized picture of who I am until reality strips away those rosy glasses and leaves me with crystal-clear vision. Blech.
Second to me... I'd say nasty people. They give me such an ick feeling. Sure, it's cathartic... but it's so hard because I want to redeem everyone, and that's just unrealistic and frankly, arrogant. So... there you have it.
If you have a question you want me to answer, leave it in the comments OR... zip me an email at chautona@chautona.com. I'll try to work them in (and will probably combine those that are really similar.

Going nuts over here waiting for yet ANOTHER Lord Going nuts over here waiting for yet ANOTHER Lord Edgington by @benedictbrownauthor novel. Sigh. I dont think this is what Solomon was talking about when he said, "A virtuous woman, who can find?"
Clearly, he wasn't talking about me, considering the whole patience being a virtue thing.
