Dream Cast for Ranger’s Apprentice

by Chautona Havig · 9 Comments

Why not?  I love the series, Ranger’s Apprentice by John Flanagan.  It’s an amazingly well designed series.  I love it.  And because I love it, I want to see it as a movie.  IMDB claims it is “in development,” but I am not certain it will ever happen.  So… let’s play around, shall we?

Will-  Of course he comes first.  I’ve done a lot of research and I’m still not satisfied with him.  I really think I want someone new– unknown.  I think he needs someone who isn’t defined by a prior role. Otherwise, Freddie Highmore (if he isn’t too old looking) would possibly pull it off.

Photo from IMDB

Halt-  Richard Armitage.  I can totally see him pulling off a good Halt.  He showed he could do it in North and South when he played a man both cold and emotionless and one who was caring.  It worked and worked well.

Horace-  I don’t know a kid burly enough looking to pull it off.  He might need to be a newbie.  I would like someone a bit like Neville from the Harry Potter movies though… someone who can pull off the slightly bumbling but deeply brave at heart thing.

Photo from IMDB

Alyce-  Since it’s a dream cast, I want the gal who played Sally Sparrow in Dr. Who– but at about age 13 or so.  Hey, it’s a dream cast, right?  Ok, instead, I’ll take Chloe Grace Moretz there at the left.

Any chance we can find a nice use for Sean Connery in it somewhere?  What about you?  Who would be your first pick for what role?

    Will: Robbie Kay
    Horace: Keir Gilchrist
    Halt: Viggo Mortensen
    Alyss: Freya Mavor
    Duncan: Benedict Cumberbatch

Sean Connery could play King Oswald in an Early Years movie.

I have changed my mind about Gilchrist as Horace (too short, no action experience). Harry Style might be able to pull him off. Especially if it was a musical… 😉

He would be good but for the fact that he looks too mature now. I think he actually could have done it during the time of the 1st Hunger Games movie. Basically everyone in “Dunkirk” has been at one point the person I would cast as Horace. He’s a difficult character. Maybe an unknown actor should do him.

All assuming the movie EVER gets made, by gosh.

Incidentally, have you read “The Kingdom Series” by Chuck Black? If not, I think you might like it. If you have, did you know they are making a movie based on it (though it is similarly taking forever)?

Yeah, you know what made me open this post…don’t you? You know it. “Look back at me!” *swoon* Yeah, I could see him as Halt. DEFINITELY. Sean Connery, Yup, See him as King Duncan. Not a crazy important role, but he fits the part.

How often does Biblical fiction go back in time... How often does Biblical fiction go back in time... before time? Not often in my experience, but Jill Eileen Smith's Daughter of Eden takes a bold step to imagine the creation of the angels... of even Michael the Archangel! Listen in while we chat about Eden, Eve, her children, and the war between those banished from heaven and those who remained to protect those made in God's image.
