Using story to connect YOU to the Master Storyteller

Because She’s Mibs

by Chautona Havig · 2 Comments

The tune of “Because He Lives” wafts through the room as my brain tries to parody the title with “Because She’s Mibs.”  Can’t you hear it, “… she will sing tomorrow.  Because she’s Mibs–her song is long!  Because she kno-ooh-oohws,  He holds the future!”  Right?

Because She's Mibs

All through the Aggie books, one thing is for certain.  Hymns will fill the pages of her heart. It’s her coping mechanism–a lesson she learned as a girl to remind her to turn to the Lord instead of follow her flesh when trouble strikes, joy fills her heart, or all the other moments in between.  Many of us have trained ourselves in various ways to do just that.  But as I wrote Ante Up!, I realized that Aggie has a second reminder built in now that I’d never noticed.

Luke calls her Mibs.  I believe it’s in book two where he finally explains why. It’s not really a story killer, so I thought I’d go over it here again. In the game of marbles, mibs are the little cheap, clay target marbles in the game.  As Luke puts it, it’s a reminder to her Who has formed her and into what kind of marble He wants her to be.  There’s also a subtle nod to the fact that we’re made from dirt–and that’s where you find clay.  The Potter, in Aggie’s case, chose to make a “Mib” instead of a pot.  🙂

This nickname is just something that I had Luke give her, and he used it as a gentle reminder, but I never really thought about how often she would hear it.  He calls her Mibs when he’s feeling especially tender toward her, especially proud of her, especially loving.  I can’t imagine him ever throwing out an exasperated, “Mibs!” with a harsh edge to it.  It doesn’t fit him.  He wouldn’t likely do that at any time, but especially not with the name he gave her as a reminder of Who the Lord is in her life.

But what a gift!  The more I think of it, the more amazed I am at the idea that just by speaking your name, someone can remind you of just Who you belong to and what He wants from you.

Luke calls her Mibs

I do not remember reading that explanation in the book. I guess it is time to reread it. We love Aggie here. One daughter reread the entire series in preparation for the newest book and another is reading it for the first time. We are excited. I assume the paperback will be coming out at about the same time. We want the real thing. 😉

Episode 587: A Chat with Four Authors
byChautona Havig

I love a good Christmas novella collection, and Lighting Up Christmas promises to be a fabulous one. Listen in as I chat with four Scrivenings authors about the collection and their books!

If you knew the craziness that was this recording! Those poor women! Meanwhile, we managed, and now, I don’t know about you, but I’m dying to get to it! :D

Lighting Up Christmas by Amy R. Anguish, Heather Greer, Mary Pat Johns, and Regina Rudd Merrick

Four Christmas lights. Four love stories. One season filled with faith, hope, and happily-ever-afters.

In Lighting Up Christmas, four heartwarming holiday romance novellas shine with cozy charm, clean romance, small-town warmth, and the gentle reminder that God can bring light to even the dimmest season.

In The Bright Side of Christmas by Amy R. Anguish, Holly Belle loves Christmas, holiday décor, and twinkling lights. Her new neighbor, Robert Bradshaw, prefers peace, quiet, and keeping her Christmas cheer firmly on her side of the duplex. But when Holly decides his grinchy heart needs a little holiday help, their battle over lights may lead to something brighter than either one expected.

In The Light of a Christmas Star by Heather Greer, Elena Bell is determined to make Tannenbaum’s Festival of Lights a success for the families depending on it. When rising Hollywood star Trenton Wills arrives at her B&B, he may be the answer to the town’s needs—and the beginning of Elena’s own Christmas romance. But Trenton has secrets that could dim more than the festival lights.

In ‘Twas the Light Before Christmas by Mary Pat Johns, Cooper Blackmon enters the region’s biggest Christmas lights competition determined to win. Mandy Alvarez needs the prize money to save her family’s beloved Christmas Village. As rivalry turns to friendship and friendship glows into something more, only one can claim the prize. But both may have far more to lose than money.

In Pitch Perfect Lights by Regina Rudd Merrick, Holly Shepherd is facing her family’s first Christmas after loss while trying to create joy for her young siblings. When author Paxton Hollis returns home and quietly helps revive her father’s beloved light display, Holly discovers that hope can still shine, even through grief.

A charming choice for readers who enjoy clean, faith-friendly romance wrapped in Christmas lights, small-town warmth, and happily-ever-after hope.

Read Lighting Up Christmas and discover four faith-filled holiday love stories that glow with joy, hope, and the true light of Christmas.
