Blended Lives Melissa Wardwell

Why I Did Not Want a Wedding Dress That I Actually Loved

While other girls dreamed of their wedding dresses, I schemed to find a way to get Nancy Drew's wardrobe. So when the time for me to come up with a wedding dress, I had no idea. I knew what I didn't want but not what I did.  The funny thing is, I ended up with a dress that I LOVED but didn't want.  Continue Reading

Yeah, I’m Guilty! Wouldn’t You Be Crazy Excited, Too?

I'd been told the drive from Paris to Lyon would take about five hours.  I made it in just over four.  Driving in the middle of the night didn't hurt. There was such a delicate balance between whizzing through the country as fast as I could get away from the Louvre and being so reckless that I Continue Reading

How a Beautiful, Heartbreaking Old Song Inspired My Newest Romance

This will probably shock many of you, but I'm here to confess that I was a weird kid.  I'll give you a second to let that sink in.  Done laughing?  Yeah.  Didn't think so. I'll wait... Look, while my friends were listening to Bon Jovi, U2, Cindy Lauper, and who knows who else (I remember those Continue Reading

What Happened to the Little Mermaid?

It was just supposed to be an auction. You know, you go, you bid, you spend way too much money on something you don't know for sure you want, you go home, you have buyer's remorse for a few days, and then it hits you. It's yours. A beautiful feeling when you really wanted it.  And I did.  I Continue Reading

Reclaiming Hope Release

What Does My Dream Island Vacation Have to Do with a New Book?

"If you could visit any island in the world, which one would it be?" I've had people ask me this question before. I don't know how to answer it, frankly. Why Fiji and not Hawaii?  Why Nantucket and not Prince Edward Island?  For that matter, why Guernsey instead of Catalina? I've had a dream Continue Reading

The Nutcracker's Suite

What Kind of Fiend Would Break a Poor, Unsuspecting Nutcracker?

Twenty nutcrackers lay spread out before me.  One by one, I grabbed my gold cord and tied it on. Must. Get. This done. Around me, young people walked through the house--first out to my son's "shed-room" and then back into the bathroom or to the kitchen for a drink and a piece of Hungarian coffee Continue Reading

Our Smartest Dog Used to Do This Crazy Thing All the Time

I was torn between the names Kemper and Mitzi. In the end, I think Kemper won, but I can't be sure. Why don't I remember my own dog's name?  My Christmas present in 1985? Well, that Australian shepherd mixed mutt didn't stay whatever I named her for long. We'd just moved to "the property" in Continue Reading

How Clearing out Junk Helped Me Find Treasure

When you spend a weekend with a professional organizer who is trying to help authors declutter their spaces, their schedules, and their minds, it gets under your skin, okay? I am already prone to bouts of decluttering frenzies as it is.  I mean, I wrote a whole book on one woman's quest to eradicate Continue Reading

Classy Women Wear Heels but I Absolutely Love Invisible Shoes

My feet hurt. You'd think after walking through airports all day, this wouldn't surprise me. Here's the thing. I've worn the same brand of shoes for the past five years.  When my old pair got worn out and my daughter said Marshall's had them in stock, I had her grab some. They are not the same.  Continue Reading

What Happens When a Great Act Shows Up in the Wrong Decade?

We stepped off the train, and let me tell you, the world's gone crazy! The automobiles! Big, round but with pointy bits. Women in hats and gloves like I've never seen.  And enough fabric in the skirts to make three dresses! When we stepped out of the station, Joe tried hailing a cab, but I Continue Reading

My #1 Most Beloved Makeup Tip. Fake Health with Foundation.

"I was hoping to see you feeling better." It wasn't the first time someone had said that.  In fact, I was getting pretty sick of hearing it.  Just that morning, I'd stood at the mirror and really examined myself. Were my eyes dull?  Nope.  I might need to pull out a few of my Groucho Marx Continue Reading

When the pilot falls

A Bear, a Tardis, and a Blue Ox Walk into a Great Mystery

Another Ever After Mystery was ready to release when I got the word that the hero of When the Pilot Falls had gone missing.  I mean, seriously?  With everything going on, we now have to go hunting for this guy?  Well, I did what any reasonable author would do. I made a graphic.  Continue Reading

Yeah. It's a thing. Which is weird because I rarel Yeah. It's a thing. Which is weird because I rarely call a book by its title. Past Forward is "Willow." Ready or Not (and the rest) are all "Aggie" (I add 1, 2, 3, 4 etc). None So Blind is "Ella."
The New Cheltenham books are all whatever word changes that year. So I'll talk about "Stars" or "Ghosts" or "Bells." But if I don't have a title I could put on the cover of the book (even if it changes--rarely but it happens--) I can't even write the first sentence. It's dericulous. Um... Ridiculous. Same smell.
Grammar wise, I'd say it's my stupid habit of not bothering to add question marks at the ends of questions. My poor editors. I THINK it's because I get interrupted in the middle of the sentence, come back, and forget it was supposed to be a question. Dont' quote (or question) me on that, though.
If you have a question you want me to answer, leave it in the comments OR... zip me an email at chautona@chautona.com. I'll try to work them in (and will probably combine those that are really similar.

Princess Genevieve’s life seems like a dream. She has a loving family, a devoted fiancé, and a future set in stone. But beneath the perfection lies a secret she has guarded for years, one that could shatter everything if it were ever revealed. When an ancient doctrine resurfaces and threatens the very foundation of the monarchy, Genevieve is forced to face a choice that will cost her more than she ever imagined.

DePeaux men love for life. They only ever give their heart away once. Julian knows his father’s oft-quoted words to be true, because his heart belongs to a woman too. A woman who long ago stole his heart, captured beneath the oak tree as they painted and grew up together. But he can never have her. Because another man’s ring lies on her finger.

With time running out and the truth impossible to ignore, Genevieve and Julian are drawn together in ways that challenge everything they have ever believed. In a world bound by tradition and expectation, they must decide if love is worth the risk of losing their future, their duty, and each other.

Reposted from @catheswanson Charlea Evans thought Reposted from @catheswanson Charlea Evans thought she had finally put her unconventional past behind her.

Now a widow with a college-age daughter and a promising new career within reach, she's worked hard to build a respectable life far removed from Serenity Hill—the quirky former commune where her free-spirited mother still lives. But when a devastating house fire destroys her home and everything she owns, Charlea finds herself with nowhere else to turn.

Reluctantly, she returns to the farm she thought she'd escaped forever, trading independence for her childhood bedroom, milking goats, tending chickens, and counting the days until she can afford a place of her own. Then an accident lands her mother in the hospital, leaving Charlea responsible for managing the property and overseeing an ambitious new venture.
Her mother and daughter have plans of their own. Big plans. Plans to transform Serenity Hill into a seasonal market and destination for workshops, events, and community gatherings. Helping bring the vision to life is Drew Wallace—the man who stole her heart on a single unforgettable date fifteen years ago.

As she works to keep the project moving forward, Charlea finds herself confronting old hurts, long-held assumptions, and the family history she's spent years trying to leave behind. With old dreams awakening and new possibilities taking root, she begins to wonder if Serenity Hill holds the answers she's been searching for. She must decide whether she's willing to risk her heart again—and whether the future she carefully planned can compete with the one God may have been preparing for her all along.

Coming home is the last thing Charlea wants—but it may be the beginning of everything she's been searching for.

Something New is the first book in the Serenity Hill series.
