What if a Bestselling Author Let You Write in Her Fictional World?

by Chautona Havig · Leave a Comment

Rachel D. Moore was given the opportunity of a lifetime when she was offered a contract by Susan May Warren's new Sunrise Publishing company! via @chautonahavig

Fans of Susan May Warren who want more from those worlds will be delighted to learn their dreams are coming true thanks to new authors like Rachel D. Russell. Writing in the world of Deep Haven from a couple of Susan May Warren’s series, Rachel and a couple of other authors bring us new looks and characters in Deep Haven.

Learn how this works, what is available, and what is coming next in this delightful chat with a very long-suffering woman!

What if a Bestselling Author Let You Write in Her Fictional World?

Thanks to a new publishing company and an uncommon publishing model, authors like Rachel D. Russell have that opportunity.  Susan May Warren has started her own publishing company combining the expertise of authors in various genres with up-and-coming authors.  This mentoring relationship allows authors to work in established worlds while still creating their own spins and twists on things.

The story of how Rachel applied for and then was accepted into Sunrise Publishing’s new line of books in Susan May Warren’s fictional town of Deep Haven is fun and inspiring.  You won’t want to miss it.

But even better than that, Rachel D. Russell earned a contract for a total of four books in this world (in two separate series with two other authors) and was given the chance to write a character she’d never dreamed she could.

Time for the late-night huckster moment.

But wait, there’s more!  Sunrise Publishing is about to announce their next round of series with their next author! EEEP!  You’ll want to keep an eye out for that on Susan May Warren’s website or over at Sunrise Publishing.

When I asked Rachel who she liked to read, it should be no surprise that she mentioned such authors as (aside from Susan May Warren, of course), Becky Wade, Courtney Walsh, and Tari Farris. I suggested she give Sarah Monzon, T.I. Lowe, and Jaycee Weaver a shot.  I suspect she’d like them.

Then Came You Rachel D. RussellRachel D. Russell’s two books in the Deep Haven Collection are Still the One and her more recent release, Then Came You.

“So, what’s your name? I mean, if you’re going to be my plus-one for the parade, I should at least know your name.”

“Plus-one?” He shook his head. “Boone Buckam. And I can’t believe you got me into this.”

“Well, Boone Buckam, you’re about to find out exactly how much fun Fish Pic can actually be. Think of it like it’s a happy accident.”

He’s in Deep Haven to relax.

Detective Daniel “Boone” Buckam is more than burned out. After fourteen stellar years on the job, one bad judgment call—and, fine, a whole lot of cynicism—has forced him into a mandatory vacation. If he can get his head on straight, there’s a job as Police Chief waiting for him back in his Minneapolis suburb.

But then he meets Vivien.

Actress Vivien Calhoun isn’t really a drama queen. Sure, she gets swept up in the emotions of life—but please, she’s an actress. Or, um, was until a stalker made her flee the bright lights of Broadway. Now, she’s passionate about directing her local theater production. But when she accidentally ropes an uptight police detective on vacation into her cast, she can’t help but wonder if he might be the leading man she’s always longed for.

Of course, she’s in trouble.

Boone can’t help but like Vivien. He might even have a type—vivacious and bubbly, with a penchant for attracting danger. He can smell trouble even if she can’t, and is pretty sure her stalker has hunted her all the way to Deep Haven. He’ll have to stay by her side—even if it means being in her silly play—to keep her safe. But Vivien is more than he expected as she helps him discover a part of him he’s locked away…the part that said he could never love again.

So much for relaxing.

It’s summertime in Deep Haven, and the fun is heating up in this laugh-out-loud, charming story.

Taking the pulse of Christian fiction

Episode 546: A Chat with Chuck Richardson
byChautona Havig

What if Earth had a twin planet, but the people God created there never sinned? Listen in as Chuck Richardson and I chat about his book and what it all could mean if it happened.

note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you.

I’m still reeling from the idea that a sinless sacrifice is what was needed, so a sinless human (as Jesus was) could actually pay the price for sinful man in this fictional world he’s created. Assuming he even goes that route someday. Still fascinating.

Paradise Unfallen by Chuck Richardson

What if Adam and Eve had resisted the serpent? Welcome to Erimea-Earth’s twin world, untouched by original sin.

Solis and Livi, the first parents of Erimea, begin their lives in perfect fellowship with God. But their obedience does not end the war. Satan and his legions simply turn their fury upon the new world.

As the population of Erimea rises, tensions crack the harmony of paradise. A powerful life-giving resource becomes scarce. Rumors spread. God is silent. And a restless humanity flirts with fear, force, and false gods.

To save their descendants from repeating Earth’s tragedy, Solis and Livi must confront deception, division, and the relentless pressure of darkness. Their journey-from innocence to holiness-will determine the future of an unfallen world.

If you enjoy Christian fantasy, biblical what-ifs, spiritual warfare, and epic worldbuilding, you will love Paradise Unfallen.

Perfect for fans of: C.S. Lewis Ted Dekker

Step into the world that might have been-and the war that still rages.

Ever notice how you best know yourself--and know y Ever notice how you best know yourself--and know yourself the least? We humans are weird that way. Sometimes I think the Lord allows us to be blind to parts of ourselves for a time so as not to drive us too crazy too quickly. Or something.
Characters most like me are hard because they're so very convicting to write AND... because I don't usually know it's me until that conviction its. I tend to have an idealized picture of who I am until reality strips away those rosy glasses and leaves me with crystal-clear vision. Blech.
Second to me... I'd say nasty people. They give me such an ick feeling. Sure, it's cathartic... but it's so hard because I want to redeem everyone, and that's just unrealistic and frankly, arrogant. So... there you have it.
